Modern, streamlined, and sturdy was the idea behind this minimalist, densely-packed three-bedroom home, with El-Nino-rated waterproofing and a compact, rectangular footprint. Commissioned to replace a house from the '40s with a disappearing foundation, the private, indoor-outdoor-focused abode boasts beautifully landscaped yards and stunning views of Mt. Tam from the broad, rear balcony.

How it all started

Situated opposite a popular, public walking/biking path, the home was designed to offer privacy when desired, while simultaneously leveraging features like a front balcony and rear patio for fostering neighborhood interaction.

From the very beginning, the owners requested a combined living, dining, and kitchen area. This roomy floorplan spills onto the rear patio, seamlessly extending entertainment and relaxation space.

Though the house's footprint is compact, the upper floor's spacious bedrooms, each with generous, adjoining balconies, offer plenty of comfortable, functional space — not to mention breathtaking views.

The home's rear, second-floor balcony provides breathtaking views of the surrounding nature, with the wooded peak of Mt. Tamalpais being the star attraction.

As an update to Cottage and Craftsman style, this robust, angular home welcomes light and leisure in all the right places. With tones of natural wood and a casual, modest ambiance, it delights with subtlety and an easy, natural flow.
