Our clients’ 1940s house in Carmel, not far from the beach, had been added onto in different phases decades apart. Much of the layout did not make sense at all. Now was the time to re think it and give it a new life.
How it all started
Let's move the kitchen! That's what we said when we took a look at the layout. The back door most frequently used landed in the kitchen, but upon crossing that threshold, you were right in front of the fridge, Grand Central of said narrow Kitchen, with no space and certainly no coat closet.
How it came together
We closed off the main entry with a new kitchen and created a real entry where the old one was. Keeping that back door where it was, we created a new entry space completely reprogramming the layout. There was an awkward and steep stair. By designing a two square foot addition, we straightened out and landed a new stair into the new entry area. The rest of the house was also remodeled.
